DESCRIPTION Paul Davis – “Cool Night” Arista Records AL 9578 (Stereo) from 1981. Hard to find Original First Pressing Vinyl Soul / Pop / Funk / R&B / Rock album from Paul Davis. Backed by a great band featuring Benny Rappa, Gene Chrisman, Ed Seay, Barry Dunaway, Steve Tischer, Tommy Cooper, Vance Taylor, Doug Bare, Steve Hardwick, Rick Hinkle and more. Includes the title hit plus “’65 Love Affair”. In the Original Cover with NO Cutouts or Promo markings. Includes the Original Printed Arista Inner Sleeve. This is a Monarch First Pressing as indicated by the Matrix / Vinyl Runout markings which read: Matrix / Runout (Side A, Etched): AL-9578-SA JL MASTERFONICS MR Δ25378 (2)Matrix / Runout (Side B, Etched): AL-9578-SB JL MASTERFONICS THRASH A SMASH, CO. MR Δ 25378X (1) CONDITION The Sleeve is in nice shape. There is some slight shelf wear and corner softening / wear. Super solid with no splits, stains, writing, tears, cutouts, etc. and would rate at least VG+. The Vinyl is in Pristine Glossy condition looking barely played and possibly even Unplayed. If you really look closely you might be able to spot a couple slight scuffs but still very close to New Condition and easily Near Mint. The labels are also Near Mint but there is a “Last” sticker on side one which I presume the LP has been treated with Last preservative. If I provide Play Grades it is done as a courtesy but I only guarantee the Visual Grade. I have summarized the important (i.e. I think everyone knows what Mint means) points below in Goldmine’s words: Very Good Plus (VG+): Record surfaces may show some slight signs of wear and may have slight scuffs or very light scratches that don’t affect one’s listening experience. Slight warps that do not affect the sound are OK. Very Good (VG): Surface noise will be evident upon playing,… Groove wear will start to be noticeable, as will light scratches (deep enough to feel with a fingernail) that will affect the sound. I stand by my grades but would like us to be on the same page so no problems arise. I have been selling Vintage Vinyl for over twenty years on the net and I can count the returns I’ve had on one hand so I believe my grading is fair and accurate. One important note, I try to grade to these Goldmine guides as best as I can understand and apply them. This gives us both a written standard to go by rather than having to guess. But…. it also means that I don’t issue refunds over differences of opinion in grading i.e. “That’s not MY idea of a VG record!” – I don’t know what your standards are and, as such, can’t grade to them.
